Materials needed:
-Furniture dolley (Home Depot)
-2 large eye hooks
-8 to 10 feet of rope
-scrap of PVC pipe
Tools needed:
-Drill and bits
-Pliers
With the help of a parent, drill pilot holes into the lower boards on one of the short ends of the dolley (the boards the wheels are attatched to). This area is covered by carpet so you may need to untangle the fibers from your drill bit periodically. Watch out! It's hot. Let mom or dad do it.
Then, you can twist the eye hooks into the pilot holes. Use the pliers to make it easier.
Measure the rope to make sure it is the length you want it. Slide the scrap of PVC pipe onto the rope. This will make the handle. Tie the ends of the rope onto the eye hooks.
Viola', you're done!
We tied a knot into the middle of our rope handle. Seemed to give us better control of the cart. Use bungee cords to keep your carry cages on tight.
Cart pros:
-The price! Only $20 for the furniture dolley (look for it by the wheel barrows).
-The quality. Nice, finished, hard wood. Decent castors. Convenient handle for carrying or hanging for storage.
-The size. Not gigantic. Takes little car space. Easily fits a three compartment carrier onto it and I'd feel comfy stacking them three high or loading all our "stuff" on it.
-The durability. It can hold 1,000 lbs. of rabbits!!!
Cart cons:
-All castors pivet 360 degrees. This makes it harder to steer on a slant. Use someone to pull and someone to steady the cart if you need to.
-Not quite as big as the expensive ones but it works just great for us.
